Interpretive tracing of fig. 15 from Foor (1967) [39]. Fertilized egg cell of Ascaris lumbricoides after anaphase I showing fusion of cortical granules with oolemma and discharge of cargos that separates the oolemma from the Chitinous Layer. Note how the different components of the cortical granules contribute to different layers, with the “homogeneous matter” forming the Spatio Externum while the Dense Material inclusions seem to be forming the Electron-dense Parietal Coating by applying their cargo as a dark coating on the exposed, freshly completed parietal surface of the Chitinous Layer.
