Résumé

Les auteurs décrivent, du Nicaragua central, les deux sexes d'une nouvelle espèce de phlébotome, Lutzomyia legerae n. sp. appartenant au sous-genre Lutzomyia, complexe cruciata. Cette espèce, morphologiquement très proche de L. cruciata, peut coexister en sympatrie avec celle-ci. Comme L. cruciata s. I. est un vecteur potentiel de leishmaniose tégumentaire au Yucatan, au Belize, et au Nicaragua, l'étude du complexe prend d'autant plus d'intérêt que la transmission, à la fois endophile et exophile, pourrait intéresser des espèces différentes.

Abstract

Both sexes of Lutzomyia legerae n. sp., a new species of phlebotomine sand fly belonging to the subgenus Lutzomyia, cruciata complex, are described from specimens collected in peridomestic environment, by light-trap, in central Nicaragua. Females of the new species are very close to L. cruciata. Therefore, in the leishmaniasis foci where the two species occur sympatrically, implication of each species as a vector has to be carefully investigated.
