Abstract
A trypanosome was cultured from the midgut of a wild Sergentomyia minuta minuta captured in Monte Argentario, Italy. The flagellate was typed by the electrophoretic analysis of 12 enzymes. The stock was found to be identical to Trypanosoma platydactyli stocks previously obtained from gekoes (Tarentola mauritanica) in Italy and France but it was quite different from a Sauroleishmania tarentolae stock recently isolated from Se. m. minuta in South Italy. The existence of two different Trypanosomatidae in the same vertebrate host-vector association is definitively shown.
