The anterior part of the body of some species of filarids bears swellings which are produced either by a large coelomocyte: Mansonella (Tetrapetalonema), or by a thickened musculature: Cercopithifilaria. These structures form a specialized apparatus which assists the male in holding the female during the copulation.
Key words: Cercopithifilaria / Mansonella / morphological adaptations / copulatory apparatus
