La gamétogonie de Parahaemoproteus desseri n. sp., ainsi que la schizogonie tissulaire sont décrites chez l’hôte naturel : Psittacula roseata ; les schizontes siègent dans les fibres musculaires, ils sont de grande taille (jusqu’à 900 μm), le plus souvent botuliformes et pseudo-cloisonnés. La sporogonie expérimentale a été étudiée chez des Culicoides nubeculosus (Ceratopogonidae) d’élevage. Les oocystes de petite taille donnent naissance à un petit nombre de sporozoites. L’analogie morphologique frappante entre les schizontes de Parahaemoproteus et ceux d’Arthrocystis galli suggère la possibilité d’une synonymie de ces deux genres.
Abstract
The gametogony and the tissue schizogony of Parahaemoproteus desseri are described in the natural host : Psittacula roseata ; the schizonts develop in muscle fibres ; they are large (up to 900 μm) and often sausage-shaped with pseudo-septa. Experimental sporogony was studied in laboratory bred Culicoides nubeculosus (Ceratopogonidae). Oocysts are small and give rise to a small number of sporozoites. The morphological characteristics of the schizonts of our Parahaemoproteus are very similar to those of schizonts of Arthrocystis galli and therefore it is possible that the two genera are synonyms.
