The mutagenetic effect on insects by the thermostable toxin of Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner

La toxine thermostable produite par un certain nombre de souches de Bacillus thuringiensis exerce sur les insectes, par application orale aux stades immatures, des effets originaux aussi bien aux doses léthales qu’aux doses subléthales. La plupart de ces effets sont rappelés en schémas synthétiques, afin de faire ressortir les conditions de mise en évidence de la transmissibilité des caractères tératologiques.
L’effet mutagène de la T.T. a été découvert sur le doryphore Leptinotarsa decemlineata Say et reste encore limité à cette espèce. Il constitue un phénomène original du fait de sa reproductibilité. Toutefois, les malformations sont transmises avec de légères modifications : les griffes sur des antennes en forme de massue après traitement des larves sont l’objet d’altérations tératologiques au niveau des pattes chez les générations suivantes.
Abstract
The most striking specific teratological effects of the thermostable toxin of Bacillus thuringinensis have been observed on the Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata Say.
A new study shows that these morphogenetic modifications are transmissible to the offspring. A short account is given about the actual knowledge of the effect of the thermostable toxin on insects in order to emphasize the particular conditions in which teratological individuals are obtainable.
