Abstract
Life-cycle of Strongyluris brevicaudata (Nematoda, Heterakidae), evidence of two ecdyses inside the egg.
It is assumed by now that the larvae of Heterakidae like those of the Ascaridoidea are hatching during the second stage which is considered as the infective stage.
The study of the life cycle of the Heterakidae Strongyluris brevicaudata Mueller, 1849, parasite of a reptile, has demonstrated that two ecdyses are taking place inside the egg. A close analysis of the previously studied Heterakidae life cycles enabled the author to state that the larvae are hatching at the third stage in this family. The transfer to the intermediate host is facultative. The biology of the Heterakidae displays some affinities with this of the Kathlaniidae.
